Industrial production in Slovakia fell by 0.2% year-on-year in August 2026, following a 2.4% increase in July. This marked the fifth decline since the start of the year, though it was the mildest contraction so far. The overall drop was driven mainly by a sharper fall in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (-47.3% vs -41.0% in July), as well as a renewed decline in transport equipment (-3.3% vs +9.5% in July). The latter was influenced by a change in the holiday schedule at a major motor vehicle manufacturer, which operated for one week less than in August 2025.
These declines were partially offset by higher output in electricity and gas supply (+7.2%) and an increase in the manufacture of machinery and equipment (+9.5%). On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, industrial production decreased by 0.6% in August. Over the first eight months of 2026, industrial output was 0.3% lower compared with the same period a year earlier.
