Greece’s industrial output increased by 5.8% year-on-year in August 2026, rebounding from a revised 1.1% decline in July and marking the strongest expansion since March 2026. The upturn was driven primarily by electricity supply, which jumped 13.2%, reversing a 12.4% drop in the previous month.
Manufacturing output also gained momentum, with growth accelerating to 4.0% from 2.0% in July. This improvement was underpinned by sharp advances in motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (269.1%), repair and installation of machinery and equipment (27.8%), textiles (15.6%), and other transport equipment (13.1%).
In contrast, output fell notably in wearing apparel (-18.4%), machinery and equipment not elsewhere classified (-6.7%), and basic metals (-4.8%), which posted the steepest declines in the sector.
Elsewhere, mining and quarrying returned to growth (1.5% vs -3.5% previously), while the contraction in water supply eased, with output down 2.5% compared with a 4.0% decline in the prior month.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall industrial production rose 2.0% in August, following a 1.8% decline in July.
