Passenger vehicle sales in India rose 23.3% year-on-year in September 2026, easing from a 33.2% increase in August, to 385,764 units, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The robust expansion in September was driven by resilient rural and urban demand, strong freight movement, infrastructure-led economic activity, and a gradual replacement cycle across vehicle segments, even as the pace of growth moderated from the previous month. “The industry looks forward to the festive season to sustain this momentum, while remaining cautiously optimistic amid ongoing geo-economic uncertainties. Continued infrastructure investment, steady economic growth, and the increasing adoption of cleaner, more efficient mobility solutions are expected to support industry performance through the second half of 2026–27,” said Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM.
