Italy’s current account surplus widened to EUR 2,766 million in August 2026, up from EUR 2,312 million in the same month a year earlier. This improvement was driven primarily by a stronger goods balance and higher primary income.
The goods surplus rose to EUR 2,280 million from EUR 2,139 million in August 2025, while the primary income surplus increased to EUR 1,798 million from EUR 1,308 million. In contrast, the services surplus narrowed to EUR 633 million from EUR 735 million, and the secondary income deficit deepened to EUR 1,946 million from EUR 1,869 million.
Overall, the expansion in the current account surplus was mainly the result of stronger goods and primary income balances, which more than offset the deterioration in secondary income.
