Retail sales in Norway fell by 0.4% month-on-month in September 2026, offsetting a 0.6% increase in August. Sales declined in non-specialised stores (-2.1% vs +1.0% in August), as well as for food, beverages and tobacco (-0.1% vs +0.6%), automotive fuel (-2.1% vs +5.1%), cultural and recreational goods (-1.0% vs +1.9%), and goods not sold in stores, stalls or markets (-1.3% vs +1.0%). At the same time, sales growth moderated for other household equipment (up 0.1% vs +0.5%).
In contrast, retail activity rebounded in ICT equipment (up 4.5% vs -3.6%) and in other goods (up 0.8% vs -0.3%). On an annual basis, retail sales fell by 1.4% in September, following a 0.9% decline in the previous month.
