FX.co ★ Triple bombing in Damascus kills dozens

Syrian state media said the first blast was caused by a car bomb and then two suicide bombers blew themselves up near the revered Sayyida Zeinab mosque in the south of the capital. The terrorists had a plan: the first bomb exploded in a car. When people started gathering at the scene and tried to rescue the victims of the first blast, two suicide bombers detonated explosives.

The explosion killed 76 people and about 110 people are injured.

The triple bombing was organized in public places. The first and the second blasts occurred near the local market and injured a lot of people, including children. State television showed footage of burning buildings and wrecked cars in the heavily populated area in the south of the city. The damage inflicted by the attack was compounded by a stall selling gas tanks near the explosion.

IS claimed responsibility for the attacks, Reuters reported.

“The Sunday bombings were carried out to interfere with the talks on the Syrian conflict in Geneva,” the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said.
