The 10th rank in terms of liberty of the mass media is given to Jamaica. In 2013, the government of this sunny state passed the law which ensures freedom of the press and expression. The government excluded slander from offenses which are subject to federal charges.

A lot of European countries can boast about freedom of speech. On the list of 10 countries with the most liberal media laws, European countries have the highest ranks. Ireland is ranked 9th. However, here journalists do not enjoy 100% freedom of expression. They could be sued for slander. Besides, policemen have the right to reject being interviewed.

Sweden occupies the 8th place. The constitution of this Nordic country was the first in the world to declare liberty of the mass media.

Switzerland is another European country on the list. Local mass media could be punished for the articles which contain leakage from the banking sector.

Costa Rica comes as a surprise to you being included on this list. This country differs a lot from its Latin American neighbors in terms of mass media liberty. Costa Rica is marked by low criminality rates and corruption. Journalists are given the right to report virtually any information in the media.

New Zealand takes the 5th place. This country is fairly named the paradise for the mass media. Nevertheless, domestic journalists complain they have to wait for long until the government releases its statements.

Denmark is ranked 4th. The constitution grants all journalists utmost freedom of expression. There are no censorship and other preventive measures in Denmark.

The 3d rank goes to Norway. The government does not make attempts to encroach on freedom of the mass media.

The Netherlands are recognized the second best on the list. The authorities are unwilling to impose strict censorship, but encourage satire and freedom of personal expression. However, open hatred and discrimination are banned by the law.

Finland is the winner of the rating. The Nordic country is the best for the mass media. Moreover, the Finns are the nation who reads the most in the world.
