The Seine river overflows its banks
Navigation of pleasure boats and barges along the river part which flows through the city is due to be suspended on June 1.

According to weather forecasts, the water level in the Seine river can rise by 5 meters by Wednesday evening, and at midnight it can become even higher.

The river reached its record level in 1910 when it increased by 8.5 meters having covered the fourth part of the city area. The territory was covered by water for over a month.

Nowadays, the residents of Paris can witness how the water has completely covered the zouave's boots on the sculpture of a warrior located near one of the pillars of the Alma Bridge. This is a traditional indicator of the critical rise of water in the river.

There are several hundred cars on the A-10 motorway which are partly filled with water, and on some road sections cars have almost gone under. Most people have been urgently evacuated by army trucks.

According to experts' estimates, a vast section of the flooded highway will be closed for at least five - six days.
Forecasters predict that the weather will improve on Saturday at least.
