World’s most unusual restaurants

Dinner in the Sky

This unusual floating restaurant received its first customers back in 2006 in Belgium. Later, it constantly changed its location, moving from one country to another. This high mobility is possible thanks to the moving platform on which the restaurant is located. This platform is controlled by a special crane. As a result, all the meals in the restaurant are served at a height of 50 m above the ground. Not everyone dares to dine in such conditions, except for thrill-seekers or desperate romantics.

Devil Island Prison

For more than 100 years, the prison on Devil's Island off the coast of French Guiana was considered one of the worst places on Earth. Particularly dangerous criminals served their sentences here. The prison was closed in the early 1950s, but its memory lives on to this day. A few years ago, the Devil Island Prison Restaurant opened in China, which is styled after the eponymous prison. Visitors dine there in their cells, their meals served by waiters dressed as wardens through the openings in the cell bars.

Snow Village

There are many restaurants and other attractions built of ice in Scandinavia. But the most famous one is the Snow Village in Lapland. The 20,000 square-meter building is almost entirely made of snow and ice. To keep visitors warm during dinner, they are offered warm blankets, hot soup, or sets of hot drinks.

El Diablo

The El Diablo restaurant, which is located in the Canary Islands, has a unique location - it was built on top of a dormant volcano. It enjoys enormous popularity today. Diners are attracted not only by the mesmerizing Martian-style landscapes, but also by the process of cooking. Local chefs roast meat right above the crater. Of course, dishes are cooked not by the boiling lava, but by the intense volcanic heat emanating from the caldera.

Heart Attack Grill

Americans are known for their love of unhealthy fast food, but the Heart Attack Grill takes the idea to an absolute extreme. Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, this restaurant features such dishes as the Quadruple Bypass, an 8,000-calorie burger with a 1 kg meat patty, 19 pieces of bacon, and 8 slices of cheese. Visitors don hospital gowns before eating them, and the burgers are delivered by waitresses wearing nurse outfits.

Ithaa

The Maldives have more underwater restaurants than any other place in the world. The most popular of them is Ithaa. The transparent underwater pavilion shaped after a giant air bubble allows diners to observe the coral reefs and the local wildlife. Divers keep the structure clean to provide perfect panoramic underwater views.

World’s most unusual restaurants

Culiair

In the early 2000s, Dutch chef Angelique Schmeinck realized her long-held dream of opening a restaurant in a hot-air balloon. Her establishment still has no counterparts anywhere in the world. At the Culiair restaurant, food is cooked during the flight, with the balloon itself being used as an oven. At a height of 50 m above the ground, the temperature inside the balloon reaches +100°C. Meat or fish cooks slower than usual at this relatively low temperature, but retains its succulence.
