The price of art, or how much the most valuable paintings by Russian artists cost
According to The Art Newspaper Russia, for the last 5 years, many of the Russian artists' paintings have been in demand. The evaluation included the cost of the art work at the moment of the previous sale at the auction. The first place was taken by the painting "Stiff and bent" by Wassily Kandinsky. Last year, it was sold for $23 million.
The second place by the cost went to "Portrait of Mary Tsetlin" by the brush of Valentin Serov. At Christie's auction it went under the hammer for $14.5 million.
Four years ago someone paid $12 million for the N. Roerich work "Proceedings of Our Lady". The painting holds the third place in the rating.
The fourth place in the rating of the paintings that costs really high is taken by "Still life with fruit" by I. Mashkov. The canvas was sold for $7.2 million.
Five years ago, B. Kustodiev's canvas "The driver" went under the hammer for $7 million. The fifth place in our rating is occupied by this painting.
The sixth is the painting "Pearl Mosque at Agra" by V. Vereshchagin. It was sold for $6.1 million.
Among the paintings of high price the seventh is the canvas "Portrait of Aleksandr Nikolaevich Tikhonov'' by Y. Annenkov. Three years ago it was bought for $6.2 million.
