10 place – United States (5.7 points)

The United States took the tenth place. Their roads are considered to be the best in the world in terms of quality, convenience and safety. Their total length is 6,662,878 km.

Responsible approach to the design and construction of highways allowed to create one of the longest road networks in the world in the second half of the XX century.

9 place – Austria (6 points)

Austrian roads stretch across the country at 122,869 km and are renowned for the excellent quality of the covering, which is why there are plenty of people who want to drive on them.

In order to decongest some of them a little and cover operating costs, the Austrian government has developed special permission stickers, vignettes. On the map, such toll roads are marked in gray or blue.

On some road sections, the construction of which was very expensive, an additional charge is added to the vignettes, but this rarely causes a protest, because you have to pay for the pleasure.

8 place – Portugal (6 points)

Although traffic rules are not strictly enforced in Portugal as in other European countries, the imposition of fines is by no means the main task of the local police.

In order to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers, signs warning of stationary radar are installed along the roads, and information about field police checks is posted on the official website of the agency.

Every year, the quality of roads is getting higher: out of 82,900 km, 71,294 km have a hard surface, some of the highways are paid-for ones.

7 place – France (6 points)

France has a high rate of transport security and accessibility. More than a million kilometers (1,050,613 km) of all types of roads cover the territory of this small country.

The French pay a lot of attention to ensuring safety at high speeds, for which they charge an additional fee on certain sections of the motorways (depending on the category and vehicle mileage). The roundabouts also contributes a lot to it.

And finally, wherever you are, on multi-lane and wide high-speed highways or on narrow city roads laid out with paving stones, you must always observe the speed limit, because the penalty for violating it is very high.

6 place – Japan (6,1 points)

Japan is one of the few countries where traffic rules are strictly followed not only by drivers but also by pedestrians.

It is quite simple to observe the speed limit in the country: there are 99 traffic lights for every 100 intersections. Coupled with the excellent quality of the roadway, equipped with a heating system in order to avoid ice, clear markings and clear navigation, Japanese roads can rightly be called the safest. Their length is 1,218,000 km.

You can have an aesthetic delight by the stunning landscapes that open when leaving the city: perfectly clean roads running along the mountain slopes are equipped with neat fences.

5 place – Netherlands (6.1 points)

In the Netherlands, the quality of the roadside infrastructure is not inferior to the quality of the roadbed which has a special porous coating that protects it from rain. This paradise is not only for cars but also for cyclists, and there are a lot of them.

Unlike in most European countries, the roads in the Netherlands are free, with the exception of one small tunnel under water near Amsterdam. Their total length is equal to 138,641 km.

Numerous soundproof fences on the tracks in those places where residential houses are located testify to the Dutch concern for the environment.

4 place – Hong Kong (6.2 points)

Despite intensive left-side traffic and a complicated network of roads, rare and expensive parking spaces, traffic jams in Hong Kong are an extremely rare phenomenon: much attention is paid to building new roads and maintaining existing ones, and the city itself is quite an attractive place for tourists and investors.

All 2,050 km of roads are paved. The transport system and roadside infrastructure are so well developed that they make it easy to get from one area of the city to another, including using public transport.

3 place – Switzerland (6.3 points)

All administrative-territorial units of Switzerland are connected by absolutely smooth, high-quality asphalt roads, the state of which remains flawless even on the steep slopes of the snow-covered Alps. In total, the length of the roadway is estimated at 70,124 km.

Switzerland is known by universal observance of the road rules which is explained not only by the fear of receiving a huge penalty for their violation but also by an opportunity to earn moral condemnation of those around, because the culture of behavior on the roads in this country is very high.

2 place – Singapore (6.3 points)

Singapore is another state that has imroved the public transport infrastructure a lot.

And although it is used by a good half of the population, many still prefer their own car to buses and trams since their growing level of well-being allows them to have one. However, this does not affect the policy of the authorities who continue to modernize the transport system as a whole.

Of the 3,262 km, the total length of Singapore’s roads, 150 km are highways. One of the stages of the Formula 1 race is held here.

1 place – UAE (6.4 points)

Roads in the UAE can without exaggeration be called luxury, despite the fact that they are laid through the endless desert. For now their length is 4,080 km, but the construction is in full swing.

In the center of cities, there are roundabouts or a huge multi-level interchanges. There are practically no police officers. Automatic radar complexes can be seen literally at every turn.

Three-lane traffic on most intercity routes, barriers in the middle of roads and ubiquitous highway lighting at night is not only a pleasant surprise for drivers, but also an extraordinarily beautiful sight that opens for air travelers from a bird's-eye view.
