Estonia and Finland are planning to build Balticconnector gas pipeline route at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. Estonian AS EG Vorguteenus and Finnish Gasum OY presented their projects to the European Commission in order to ask for investment aid. Sergei Jefimov, AS EG Vorguteenus Chairman of the Board, stated that the EC funding will make the research on land and water possible.
Experts are going to prepare their plans for land and water gas routes of Balticconnector and submit them to the European Commission. The projects are to be headed for consideration of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) in 2017.
Balticconnector gas pipeline route is supposed to connect Estonian and Finnish gas transmission lines enabling Gasum OY to store gas in Latvia’s Inchukalns underground storage. Besides, Balticconnector is expected to become additional source of this type of fuel for Baltic nations and establish a single gas market in the region.
