American banks to move away from London

The U.S. banks are drawing up a plan of actions in case the United Kingdom makes up its mind to leave the EU, The Financial Times reports citing sources familiar with the situation. The lion’s share of the American financial institutions which are headquartered in London might move to Ireland. Having headquarters in Great Britain enables the U.S. banks to do their activity in 28 member states of the European Union. According to the FT, the situation will change dramatically in case the UK is not the European Union nation anymore.
David Cameron has repeatedly claimed that Britain might leave the alliance unless Brussels makes some concessions. Moreover, the British prime minister promised to hold a referendum if the Conservatives win the next election scheduled for May 2015.
Many experts are of the opinion that in case the UK and EU go separate ways, Frankfurt and Paris might reckon on replacing London, the current European banking center. Meanwhile, Dublin with its low taxes, English-speaking citizens and legislation similar to the British one might fight for this title with its European counterparts.
