According to Brad Retter, the director of the Bitcoin Research Institute, the new institution has been established specifically to produce high-quality academic publications about Bitcoin. As he pointed out, many of the articles devoted to cryptocurrencies are currently written by individuals having a vague idea about Bitcoin and blockchain.
A professor from the University of Wyoming expressed the opinion that such publications are extremely harmful to the industry, as they create the wrong impression of Bitcoin as a financial outlaw rather than a serious and risky asset. Journalists scatter these materials around the world without bothering to fact-check, added the expert.
Bradley Retter assured that the new institute would publish academic papers written by specialists who truly understand Bitcoin. Moreover, these works will be peer-reviewed, which instils hope for a scientific approach.
The UW Bitcoin Research Institute is a non-profit organization and is therefore open to donations, including in Bitcoin. The institute is set to launch in August of this year.
Wyoming, already considered a leader in the cryptocurrency industry, will only reinforce its progressive stance with the establishment of the Bitcoin Research Institute. Indeed, here Bitcoin will be treated seriously as the future of the global economy.
