The US Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, made a bold announcement. The agency claims that if Congress follows its recommendations, the country will save $3.9 trillion over the next 10 years.
"Through SIMPLE solutions, we will be saving the American people $3.9 TRILLION over the next 10 years ... These are the savings we can deliver to the American people if Congress implements the DOGE Subcommittee’s recommendations”, the agency posted on the X social media platform.
Earlier, Mike Johnson, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, stated that DOGE had uncovered "shocking" government expenditures that bypassed Congress. This statement was confirmed by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who emphasized that federal spending had reached "unprecedented peacetime levels" and that the budget deficit had surged to 6.8%–7.0% of GDP. He expressed concerns that the current fiscal policy is out of control, warning of potentially serious consequences.
Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). From Trump’s viewpoint, the agency's mission is to cut "wasteful spending" and restructure federal agencies. However, Ramaswamy later announced his resignation from the department's leadership.
