Europe on track to avert winter gas crisis as storage nears 80%

Good times are ahead for EU countries, many experts believe. This winter, Europe will likely avoid another gas crisis. According to Bloomberg, its storage sites are already 80% full.

The eurozone is entering the heating season far better prepared than previously expected. Inventories are still being replenished, and prices are falling. If no unforeseen disruptions occur, the region will be able to escape another energy crisis, experts say.

EU fuel storage sites are now over 76% full, which puts them on track to reach the 80% target within the next month. By law, this LNG storage threshold must be secured by November 1. Meeting this requirement should help prevent shortages during the colder months. Under these conditions, the heating season is set to begin on schedule and proceed without major issues.

Unexpected help has also come from China. Beijing, one of the world's largest buyers of liquefied natural gas, has scaled back purchases this year due to increased pipeline imports and domestic production, as well as economic pressure from US tariffs. This shift opened a window of opportunity that EU countries were quick to seize.
