Territorial disputes are ones of the hottest issues nowadays. Governments of different countries find various maps proving the right for one or another piece of land. Every nation is trying to prove that it is a lawful owner of some disputable square kilometers. In the largest settlement with a single American Indian tribe, the US will pay the Navajo Nation $554 million to settle claims that the U.S. government has mismanaged funds and natural resources on the Navajo reservation. It is a long-standing dispute lasting for more than 50 years and only recently the settlement was signed in Window Rock, Ariz. Under the settlement, the Navajo Nation will receive $554 million in compensation, the largest amount ever paid in similar disputes. The US government oversees 14 million acres of land that belongs to the Navajo Nation leasing it for farming, oil and coal extraction as well as timber harvesting to the detriment of the owners. However, the current practice shows that the settlement does not rule out an opportunity of further disputes over water pollution, Prosecutor General of the Navajo Nation noted. Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly said the tribe would host town hall meetings with members to determine how the money would be spent.
