Norwegian energy company Statoil started natural gas deliveries to Ukraine’s Naftogaz, Ukrainian News Agency said citing a source in the government familiar with the matter. Statoil delivers gas using the Slovak transit corridor. According to the source, the volume of supplies totals 12-15 million cubic meters of gas a day.
“This is the first such agreement between Naftogaz and Statoil, it expands the pool of gas suppliers to Ukraine and also opens a new market for Statoil,” officials at Naftogaz said, adding that Statoil began shipments to Naftogaz via Slovakia and covers about a half of Ukraine’s gas needs.
In light of the recent political events, Ukraine pumped 986 million cubic meters of gas from Europe only for September. Slovakia provided the nation with 779 cubic meters of gas; Poland gave 117 million cubic meters, while Hungary sent Ukraine 90 million cubic meters of gas.
