During the briefing in Warsaw, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the issue of the sanctions against Russia would be tackled by the European countries in July.
“We will take up this question in June and I think that we will decide to extend the sanctions,” Merkel said.
In March 2015, EU leaders decided to align the existing sanctions regime to the implementation of the Minsk agreements. “It’s completely clear that fulfilling the terms of this package will take longer than August or September,” Merkel said.
Since last March, Western countries have already imposed sanctions against Russian politicians, businessmen, and companies due to Russia’s attitude to the Ukrainian conflict. Last time, sanctions were imposed this March along with the US sanctions list extension.
