Following investors’ example, foreign companies are massively leaving the Russian market. Some of them are wary of their prospects in the current geopolitical situation; others are concerned about falling demand. Amid lower salaries, most Russian people had to refuse from unnecessary spending, including services provided by Air Berlin.
The company’s management said that it was decided to end flights to Russia due to sluggish demand for flights. From the beginning of 2016, the company will stop flights between Germany and Russia. In mid-January, it is planned to cancel all flights between Dusseldorf and Moscow, Berlin and Moscow, and later, between Berlin and Kaliningrad. Nevertheless, the company was trying to keep air traffic with Russia.
Air Berlin has reviewed its route network and cost of its services trying to stop a decline in demand. However, the company’s profitability is nosediving despite the taken measures.
The company assured that all tickets that have been reserved on canceled dates will be rebooked on alternative flights of Air Berlin Group members or its partners.
