Any advantage could play a significant role in international competition between the great powers, including leadership in a count of dollar billionaires. According to the latest survey, the United States, which had been posting the highest readings for a long time, was finally overtaken by Communist China. Considering the major principles of communism, it is surprising that the People's Republic of China was ranked as the country with the most billionaires. On the other hand, we can easily assume that the Chinese authorities could tolerate this unwelcome social class with the only aim to outperform the US amid their long-term confrontation. According to the recent report published by the Hurun Research Institute, which conducts annual rankings of the richest individuals, China has about 600 dollar billionaires with an estimated fortune of at least $1 billion each. This may be compared with 550 billionaires in the US. Hurun notes that the survey figures cover a population of mainland China only. The difference should climb up to two hundred with billionaires in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan counted. Wanda property group head Wang Jianlin took the first place in the annual China Rich List. In just one year, he managed to multiply his estimated fortune by one and a half time to $34.4 billion. Wang Jianlin wrested the title back from Jack Ma, a founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba, whose fortune is worth $22.7 billion.
