According to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, only strict control over the EU external borders will help to avoid a breakdown of the European Union. The official arrived at this conclusion following the migrant crisis and emerged risks of terrorist attacks which caused social tension in the region. On the one hand, Rutte’s words sound irrelevant, on the other hand, the Netherlands will preside in the EU in 2016, so its official stance should be considered. In his remarks, the prime minister compared the European Union with the Roman Empire warning the EU against the tragic fate of Rome. “As we all know from the Roman empire, big empires go down if the borders are not well-protected. So we really have an imperative that it is handled. There’s no reason to think all the refugees are now potential terrorists. Yes, there is a risk that a terrorist might be among the refugees. We should be very vigilant, but at the same time we should continue our way of life. We have more people than they do. We have the older civilization. We should not let ourselves be scared.” Mark Rutte said. The truth is that the politician might have mixed up some historical data. He overlooked the fact that long before Ancient Greece, which is considered to be the ancestor of the European civilization, there have been such great oriental civilizations as Egypt, Sumer, Babylon, India, and China.
