Moscow threatens Kazakhstan to opt out all mutual projects on cosmic launches from Baikonur cosmodrome.
The decision of the government of Kazakhstan to authorize the launch of only 12 Russian rockets in 2013 against 12 last year was the reason for this. In such a way, Roscosmos can lose $500 million.
Resolution of the Kazakhstan Government says that the launches of the spacecrafts that use new impact zones for detached parts of Souyz type rockets can be carried out only after the relevant international agreement is signed.
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a note to Kazakhstan warning that cosmic launches from Astana can be cancelled at all.
According to Roscosmos, the restrictions approved by Kazakhstan can result in its failure to perform obligations stipulated in the contracts on 5 commercial programs which will lead to rescission of the contracts. As the result, Kazakhstan will have to pay back up to $500 million.
