Viktor Yanukovich, the President of Ukraine, is going to meet Vladimir Putin at Zavidovo residence, 150 kilometres away from Moscow. The two presidents will discuss gas cooperation.
According to Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitriy Peskov, it is going to be a working trip, and the meeting will be held in a face-to-face mode. He also noted that the vis-a-vis will not be followed by any press conference so that the two leaders can take their time for a fruitful dialogue.
Mr Peskov said Russia is unlikely to sign any documents at the meeting as it is only aimed at establishment of an efficient trust-based dialogue.
What Vladimir Putin and Viktor Yanukovich have on the agenda is ways to develop gas cooperation, particularly, pricing and volume of gas purchased by Ukraine. The Ukrainian government is not happy with the terms and conditions of the existing gas contract with Russia signed in 2009.
“Taking into consideration disagreements over certain issues in gas cooperation such as price formation and volumes imported by Ukraine, the sides will continue working on contracts,” Putin’s press office said.
The national leaders will also touch upon the issues of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and share views on the foreign policy.
