The Los Angeles Times reports that dot-com companies’ employees and market participants have criticized Yahoo!’s ban on remote work.
Richard Branson, founder and chairman of Virgin Group and English business magnate, also did not welcome the initiative of Yahoo!’s new CEO Marissa Mayer. He appealed to Mayer to give people the freedom to work where they want.
AllThingsDigital blog cited internal memo telling all employees who work remotely relocate to company facilities by June 1 or quit.
Yahoo! refused to comment on internal matters.
Meanwhile, according to AllThingsDigital, other huge dot-com companies do not support such idea as well. Thus, Google (where Mayer has worked before) on the contrary, encourage their stuff to work from home in order not to be distracted by office routine. As Bloomberg states, the Yahoo!’s decision can be negative the work performance, thus, resulting in an opposite effect.
