It seems that the US President has never heard about the saying “think first, then speak”. Notorious for his harsh comments, Donald Trump provoked outrage among the global community after he complained about an influx of immigrants from Africa. Speaking at a meeting in the White House, he said that the United States needs more newcomers from such countries as Norway but not from Africa. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” he wondered.
The advocates for the Africans’ right to move around the globe freely reacted immediately. The United Nations Organizations noted that such remarks are disgraceful and racist. Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Rupert Colville said: “You cannot dismiss entire countries and continents as ‘shitholes’, whose entire populations, who are not white, are therefore not welcome.” Ebba Kalondo, the spokesperson for the African Union, also could not leave Trump’s comments unnoticed. “Considering the historical reality of how many Africans arrived in the U.S. during the Atlantic slave trade, this flies in the face of all accepted behavior and practice,” she said. Furthermore, Botswana's Ministry of International Affairs asked the US’s ambassador to clarify why Mr. Trump gave such reprehensible comments.
