Chief executives of Twitter and Facebook testified in an open hearing on foreign interference and election meddling at the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey told lawmakers about their efforts to prevent foreign influence operations on their platforms.
According to Sandberg, their efforts give good results. Meanwhile, Dorsey admitted that the companies were unprepared for a number of situations, which triggered many problems. However, they intend to resolve them in the near future.
Many policymakers in the US Senate advocated for more stringent regulation of big US tech companies. However, according to experts, such measures will negatively affect advertisers, limiting their access to users of social networks. This, in turn, will weigh down the stock price of Facebook and Twitter, analysts warn.
