An unexpected statement was made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry rejected the option of complete abandonment to settle in the US dollars. Deputy Minister Alexander Pankin declared in his interview with RIA Novosti that it would not be possible to get rid of the American currency entirely. However, according to him, the current behaviour of the United States makes a large number of players in the world market think about it. At the moment, there is no alternative that could satisfy everyone. Moreover, it is not expected to be found in the near future. Remind that the last alternatives proposed by Russian experts were gold and cryptocurrencies. As for the blockchain technology, digital money is still far from competing with the dollar in this respect. The liquidity of other foreign exchange reserve markets is not particularly different from liquidity in the US dollar, and therefore it cannot be an alternative. As for gold, it cannot be used in calculations. So, such statements about abandoning the US dollar are aimed solely at the internal audience in order to somehow react to the sanctions.
