US National Debt hits its 70-year record

Recently, the US national debt has exceeded $22 trillion for the first time in 70 years. As of February 11, it amounts to 22,012 trillion dollars. Moreover, the debt has grown by more than 90 billion dollars since the beginning of this month. Some experts, for example, Professor of Economics at Boston University Laurence Kotlikoff, are sure that this number is lowered by at least 3 times. The pace of the national debt’s growth has been the highest since Donald Trump became President. Perhaps, US government will have to hike the maximum level of the debt soon. On the other hand, some analysts believe that such a big government debt is not a problem at all.

“In fact, America does not have any external national debt as the entire debt is in the US dollars. Therefore, it can be considered internal. It is not a problem as far as the whole world is ready to buy these obligations. The problem will appear if the debt’s sale takes place. So far, it seems to be just a scare story,” Anton Tabakh, Director of Regional Ratings at RusRating, said.
