Jens Mueller, the spokesperson for the Nord Stream 2 AG company, claimed that the European Parliament's resolution, calling for stopping the construction of Nord Stream 2, is not legally binding, the Federal News Agency website reported.
Mr Mueller noted that the institution’s decision does not change the legal framework regulating the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. According to him, the pipeline will make a significant contribution to the EU’s energy union objectives by creating a new route of gas supply.
Strong demand for gas in Europe makes a compelling case for investing in the gas pipeline construction, Jens Mueller added.
Previously, the European Parliament reportedly opposed the construction of Nord Stream 2, as this project could reinforce the EU's dependence on Russian gas.
