The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasted that oil production would fall by 0.9 percent (110,000 barrels per day) to 12.3 million barrels per day in 2019 and drop by 1.3 percent (170,000 barrels per day) to 13.03 million barrels per day in 2020, data from the monthly short-term energy outlook showed.
Production would mainly grow in the Permian Basin located in the states of Texas and New Mexico.
According to the latest monthly EIA report, published on February 28, the average daily oil production in the US in December 2018 reached 11.8 million barrels per day, having fallen by 0.5 percent from the level of the previous month. The average daily oil output in November was estimated at 11.9 million barrels per day.
Despite the decline in production, the United States has remained the world leader in terms of oil output since August, when the country surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia.
