Merkel returns to office after two weeks in self-isolation

The European Union has been through thick and thin many times. Today, at the time when the coronavirus tightens its grip on the world, the EU demonstrates remarkable resilience to the virus' blows. Currently, borders in the euro area have been partially restored. However, the coronavirus has added problems in terms of the distribution of financial support. Considering the fact that each EU member state has different incomes and the financial system in the union is very complex, European leaders simply cannot find an effective solution that would suit everyone. Germany and the Netherlands fear that they will have to pay all debts. Meanwhile, Italy and Spain, countries that have been severely hit by the spread of the coronavirus, insist on the sell of the Eurobonds. Anyway, the situation can improve relatively soon as Angela Merkel returns to the office after 14 days in self-isolation. The chancellor tested negative for the coronavirus at least three times. Merkel said that it was hard to stay home for so long. The chancellor added that she understood how challenging it was for people to stay under lockdown for so many days. However, it would be irresponsible to give a concrete date for lifting, or at least loosening quarantine restrictions, Merkel pointed out. Given the positive experience of Germany in the fight against COVID-19 and the ability of Angela Merkel to find compromises, there is every reason to believe that the coronavirus crisis in the EU will soon come to an end.
