Africa has 55 billionaires

Africa is one of the richest and most mysterious continents in the world. It has a vast territory, huge mineral deposits, and the population of over 1 billion people. Modern Africa can suggest many outlines of the European society. For example, the Europeans' longing to systematize and estimate everything. Several years ago, nobody was interested in such nuances here. However, now the rating system came to Africa, and the experts determined how many billionaires live in the African continent. They even found out an annual growth of wealthy people. According to Ventures financial magazine, today Africa is home for 55 billionaires. This data was a surprise for the experts, who like counting somebody else's money, because previously they had believed that there are twice fewer billionaires in Africa – from 16 to 25 persons. That is why, the recent news was unexpected for the world. “I am sure there are more billionaires than those 55, but discussing wealth is still taboo in Africa”, founder of Ventures Chi-Chi Okonjo told the mass media. 55 African people own $145 billion, the specialists said. The richest man is Nigeria's Aliko Dangote. He controls assets in the petroleum, food and other sectors. His fortune is $20 billion. The second place is occupied by economist Allan Gray, with a fortune of $8.5 billion. Mike Adenuga made it on the list as the third one. He is worth $8 billion. The petroleum and telecoms businesses fill his pockets. The recent situation is a consequence of the strong economic growth seen within the latest decade, and a sharp rise in the crude oil prices from $20 in 2000 to $107 currently.
