The US sanctions can be very painful for those they are targeted at. At first, it might seem that the challenge they pose will provide new opportunities for the opponent. Thus, Russia was the first to cheer US sanctions as an opportunity for growth, and other countries, including China, followed the lead. When Washington first threatened to impose sanctions on China’s tech giant Huawei, the company was sure that these measures would not affect its business. However, as soon as the restrictions came into force, Huawei faced bitter reality. In May this year, Huawei was barred from purchasing high-end processor chips for its smartphones from US companies. In the near future, this restriction will consequently deal a hard blow to the company’s supply chain and tech inventory. Earlier, the US authorities accused the Chinese tech company of espionage and said it was threatening national security. Recently, when speaking about the company's prospects, Huawei’s Chairman Guo Ping said that survival was the main goal for now. “Huawei is in a difficult situation these days. Non-stop aggression from the US government has put us under significant pressure. Right now, survival is the goal,” the chairman announced at the opening of the company’s Huawei Connect event. Guo Ping also expressed hope that the US government would reconsider its decision and would soon allow Huawei to buy equipment from US vendors.
