Germans fight Elon Musk’s plans to build a Tesla electric car factory in Germany. Thus, the project is at risk of failure due to the complaints of ordinary German citizens.
It may look surreal that average folks from the eastern state of Brandenburg can stop such a profitable and promising project. However, in Germany, the government is employed by the electorate and does not get the ownership of the country. Therefore, that could be well the case. Local residents and environmentalists have filed complaints against Tesla. Currently, there are more than 400 such complaints. It is quite enough to stop the construction of the plant. Mostly, people are concerned about a guaranteed increase in freight traffic, large-scale deforestation to clear a construction site, and a possible reduction in water supply. These are all essential companions of any large enterprise. Given that the region affected by droughts is already experiencing water shortages, the claims look rather convincing.
The hearing of the case has already begun in the higher administrative court for the Berlin and Brandenburg region, involving local residents, representatives of the Tesla company and German environmental agencies. The future fate of the factory will depend on the results of the final proceedings. If the electric vehicle maker does not obtain permission, Tesla will have to stop the construction of the plant and remove already installed structures.
