Surprisingly, in some countries bitcoin can still be bought at below-the-market prices. In particular, nearly 600 bitcoins confiscated as part of the legal case have been recently auctioned in France. This was an online auction where 611 bitcoins were offered. The crypto assets were previously forfeited by the Agency for the Recovery and Management of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AGRASC). The tokens were confiscated from individuals linked to the hacking of the GateHub trading platform in 2019. The event was organized by the Kapandji Morhange auction house. The first bitcoin auction did not differ much from any other events of this kind and was held according to the existing rules. The sale started at 9 a.m. with 437 lots of between 0.11 and 2 BTC. In the afternoon, 42 larger lots of between 5 and 20 BTC were offered. The total value of lots exceeded €28 million. The first lot of 0.11 BTC was highly anticipated by auction participants as it was the first of its kind and, therefore, valued greatly by collectors. It was sold for €26,800, far exceeding the market value. The second lot of 1.1 BTC was acquired for €45,000. The starting price per one bitcoin was €30,000 and then it went up to €40,100. The price per two bitcoins was €60,000, later it advanced to €70,000.
