Lenovo Group Ltd. engaged the U.S. national security experts to be consulted on purchasing Motorola Mobility unit and IBM Corp. server business, Bloomberg says.
The attorneys hired at Stepton & Johnson used to work at the Central Intelligence Agency and the Homeland Security Department. Besides, Covington & Burling partners are supposed to represent Lenovo in the IBM deal.
The total amount of two deals is estimated at $5 billion. Lenovo is buying the U.S. securities to expand its presence on the world market. Presently, Lenovo is specializing in personal computers production, which is contracting for the last couple of years.
Last year, Lenovo spent $140,000 on lobbying. As a comparison, Google and IBM paid out $15.8 million and $6 million respectively.

In 2011, Huawei had to suspend the purchase of patents from 3Leaf Systems, a computer-services company, after the U.S. government objections. In 2012, the U.S. House intelligence committee presented a report suggesting that Huawei, which is apparently working for China’s intelligence, is engaged in espionage.
