Home renovation is not only the state of mind, but also a black hole in family savings which swallow up huge money. Everyone knows that home improvement can last for ages; it is hardly possible to save on fixing costs even when redecorating a modest apartment. Speaking about a royal palace’s renovation, it becomes a matter of national importance. The time-worn royal residence exhausted the treasury of England’s queen. Back in the early 21st century, the wealth of Elizabeth II measured up to massive £34 million. However, nowadays the royal treasury has shrunk to £1 million. For several centuries at a run, the British monarchy has been staying invulnerable to its foreign enemies. But it has not been able to resist the decay of the royal residences, negligent court, and careless bookkeepers serving for the Windsor dynasty. Maintenance of the royal palaces is quite costly. Servicing of the heating system alone requires £774,000 annually. Besides, according to auditors’ estimates, 39% of the total living space is in the critical condition. For instance, the Windsor Palace’s roof has been leaking so much that a butler and chambermaids have to remove buckets of rainwater to protect the arts and antiques collection. Taking into account the age of the real estate, the fixing costs have been rising year by year. The most modern Sandringham House is 160 years old. The oldest Windsor Palace extends back almost 1,000 years. Routine maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment require a lot of cash injections. After the downbeat situation had been considered by MPs, the House of Commons adopted a resolution to rescue the queen’s budget. So, auditors from the Public Accounts Committee decided to change the current state of affairs drastically. From now on, experts from the Finance Minister will be assigned to deal with the royal treasury; they are supposed to solve financial budgeting matters as well as to tackle the management and monitoring of the expenses.
