American auto manufacturer Ford plans to lay off about 1,000 employees, according to Bloomberg. This is a necessary measure for the efficient production of electric vehicles, as the company will have additional funds after the cuts.
According to a Ford spokesman, stuff reshuffles have long been an integral part of the company's work. Such measures help to properly prioritize business, the group's management notes. At the moment, the focus is on the production of electric cars organized as part of the Ford + program. Employees who prove to be ineffective for the new direction will be laid off.
In July 2021, Ford executives gave advance notice of the upcoming changes to employees affected by the layoffs. This was done in order to facilitate the process. The auto manufacturer intends to pay large benefits to those laid off and help with subsequent employment.
Last September, Ford first announced it was planning to cut 1,400 US jobs. In the spring, however, the company's plans changed slightly due to a high profit of $561 million after a rise in the price of rare car models.
The automaker's current decision comes in line with the US government's goal of reducing harmful emissions. The production of electric cars fits seamlessly into this program. Ford said it aims to make electric vehicles account for 40% to 50% of its US sales by 2030.
