Lionel Messi, the legendary football player of our time, has recently joined French Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). This was a historic event for the club, as well as for its cryptocurrency, PSG Fan Token. Rumours about Messi signing with Paris SG were enough for the price of the token to double. Amid reports that the Argentinean was heading to the Parisian club, the token skyrocketed to $55 from $26 within several days. Later, the news broke that Leo Messi will receive some of his signing bonus to PSG in the club's fan token. According to PSG Chief Partnerships Officer Marc Armstrong, the club has been able to "engage with a new global audience, creating a significant digital revenue stream."
Paris Saint-Germain listed its tokens on the Socios blockchain platform in early 2020. The purchase of PSG Fan Tokens allows fans to be involved in decisions surrounding the club, as well as to receive various bonuses, exclusive offers, and gifts. Notably, Barcelona placed 40 million tokens on Socios. The platform is also used by other popular football clubs, including Milan, Juventus, Roma, Atlético Madrid, Galatasaray, and Manchester City.
