McDonald's commits to going green

McDonald's pledges to become a more Earth-friendly company. The popular fast-food chain has headed for ecological production. It is devoted to recycling its wastes and packaging properly.

Last year, most McDonald's food packaging (99.6%), including paper bags, napkins, cups, cup holders, and more, was produced from recycled or environmentally friendly materials. According to Reuters, this will help the restaurant chain to transform into a green company.

Two years ago, McDonald's achieved a major breakthrough in following the sustainability trend: 92% of the packaging was made from eco-friendly materials. It is particularly relevant to the global fast-food company that has over 39,000 restaurants worldwide. An Adweek-Harris Poll survey revealed that 62% of American people have nothing against disposable packaging as well as the use of recycled materials.

McDonald's has set an ambitious goal to use renewable, recyclable, or certified materials in all its packaging by 2025. Earlier, the fast-food giant replaced plastic straws with paper ones. It heeded the advice of respected scientists who warned of health risks from prolonged use of disposable packaging.

Some 80% of McDonald's packaging consists of recycled or eco-friendly materials. The US food chain also uses paper straws and wooden cutlery, working towards its goal to become an Earth-friendly company.
