Dorian Nakamoto, the probable creator of bitcoins, was donated about $28 billion in bitcoins, Bloomberg said.
The fundraising account was created by the chief security officer for Blockchain.info Andreas M. Antonopoulos. In total, Nakamoto received more than 1,800 payments amounting to about 44 bitcoins.
Antonopoulos said that even if Nakamoto is not the bitcoin creator, he could use the donated money as a compensation for increased attention from the media. In case Nakamoto rejects donations, the funds will go to Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties advocacy group. Nakamoto’s money will be exchange for the U.S. dollars at the end of March. Previously, a 64-year-old physicist denied Newsweek magazine report which identified him as the digital currency’s creator. In his interview to Associated Press, Dorian Nakamoto said he had known about bitcoins from his son several weeks ago. Also, on the P2P Foundation page of bitcoin creator, there was a comment saying “I am not Dorian Nakamoto”. However, some users suggested the account was hacked.
Newsweek said that its article comprised moral and editorial standards. The Leah McGrath Goodman’s article was published on March 6. The journalist described facts she collected about Satoshi Nakamoto for several months allowing her to suppose he was the creator of bitcoins. First of all she mentioned the fact that his name coincided with the one cited by the press as the alleged creator of bitcoins. Moreover, Goodman highlighted the sphere Nakamoto is involved in. He is engineer and mathematician.
The virtual currency was introduced in 2009. However, the creators are still unknown. Despite the media learned about the name of a possible creator - Satoshi Nakamoto, people say it may be the collective pseudonym.
