The UK’s recent winter floods have given the jobs market and construction industry an "unexpected boost", Manpower said.
According to its findings, the clean-up work will bring developers about £250 million. Approximately 6,000 properties were affected by flooding throughout the United Kingdom, while an average repair bill amounts to £30,000-£40,000. Manpower said that energy firms will cash in on the floods as they have also started hiring more staff.
Manpower also mentioned that it is the first time since 2008 companies are ready to employ more people than to dismiss.
The UK’s floods were caused by heavy rains that started in latter 2013. As of February 2014, there were 80,000 homes without power.
According to BBC News, the British Chamber of Commerce raised its forecasts for economic growth in the United Kingdom. Thus, it predicted the economy would rebound to pre-crisis levels in the second quarter of 2014. It also said the UK’s GDP is projected to come in at 2.8% in 2014 (versus preliminary estimate of 2.7%). In 2015, the country’s economy is seen to post 2.5%. Among the negative factors, the British Chamber of Commerce mentioned high youth unemployment rate.
