The Royal Mint has always been looking for new ways of extracting gold.
Britain’s coin maker has decided to adopt one of the Canadian start-ups. It has developed a technology to extract gold from various discarded devices. Modern metalworking techniques have made it possible to produce 999.9 pure gold. Thanks to these results, technology has already attracted a lot of gold producers. The mint wants to upgrade the technology and extract not only gold but also other precious metals. The new technology will enable the Royal Mint to recover palladium, silver, and copper. First and foremost, various components of old mobile phones, televisions, and laptops will be used.
Anne Jessop, the chief executive of the Royal Mint, said that the technology would help to "make a genuine impact on one of the world's greatest environmental challenges". Notably, the UK has suffered losses because of its commitment to a green energy transition policy. It has managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44%. However, the country runs the risk of a gas deficit.
