US accuses China of missing trade commitments

The full-scale trade war between the world’s two largest economies may have moved to the back burner amid the threat of actual military actions, though it did not go anywhere. The confrontation between the United States and China continues despite the signed trade agreement.

The conflict once again came to the spotlight after Washington had accused Beijing of failing to fulfill its obligations. According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, China struggled to keep pace with its purchasing commitments under the agreement. She emphasized at the briefing that the United States was aware of the issue. Katherine Tai, US Trade Representative, has all the details, the White House spokesperson said.

The Biden administration expects China to do what is required under the trade deal arranged by former US President Donald Trump in January 2020. China had pledged to buy the extra $200 billion in US agriculture, energy as well as manufactured goods and services over the 2017 level in 2020-2021. Nevertheless, President Joseph Biden says the agreement does not solve major issues with China’s economy.
