Lietuvos dujos, the key supplier of gas on the Lithuanian domestic market scored a victory in the battle with Gazprom as the Russian energy giant cut the import prices for Lithuania. The size of the discount has not been revealed, but the Lithuanian company pointed out that the prices were lowered dramatically.
According to unofficial information, the price was marked down by 20%. If so, Lietuvos dujos will buy gas for $370 per 1,000 cubic meters.
Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirgas Butkevicius stated that the agreement sets out the new scheme of price calculation to fix competitive prices for Lietuvos dujos consumers with other Baltic companies, in particular, Latvian and Estonian firms. The new deal will be in effect by the end of 2015.
The price for consumers will be brought down in July. Gas prices must be approved by the Lithuanian National Commission for Prices and Energy first.
Lietuvos dujos imports about 40% of the Russian gas. German E.ON Ruhrgas and Gazprom have 39% and 37% stakes each.
Last year, the prime minister said that Lithuania overpaid for the Russian liquid fuel $2.6 billion litas (or $1 billion).
