According to RIA Novosti, Brazil, India, and South Africa considered Argentina to be a likely candidate to enter BRICS, India’s ambassador in Buenos Aires Amarenda Khatua stated on May 12.
Three of five BRICS members (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) give Argentina the green light to join the association, Khatua noted. He also stressed that India and Argentina still have a lot to do to develop their potential for partnership.
The BRICS enlargement will occur only after all the members will give their approval. Besides, all the factors must be taken into account since the country has a huge territory, large population, and relatively unstable economic situation. Moreover, Argentina is burdened with massive external debt.
The next BRICS summit is slated for July 15 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
