China to increase LNG import by 270%

By 2015, China plans to increase the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 270% or by 3.7 times, from current 18 million tons to 67 million tons, the executive director of the Singapore division of Gazprom Marketing & Trading reports.
China is interested in the gas as it aims to improve ecological environment in the country.
The LNG global market expands by 5% annually. It can be explained by the diversification of sources of gas supply in some countries as well as peculiarities of the Asian gas market. The gas pipeline network is not widespread there, but the demand for the fuel is growing steadily.
Meanwhile, by 2030 the Asian countries will increase gas consumption from 684 billion cubic meters in 2012 to 1.15 trillion cubic meters.
Medan Abdullah thinks that global demand for gas will rise by 2% every year, exceeding demand for other types of fossil fuels. This is stipulated by the economic development of the countries as well as higher gas consumption and establishing of new markets in Asia.
