Barack Obama has asked Congress $1 billion to boost the U.S. military presence in Europe. According to the American president, additional subsidies for the army are needed to reassure the NATO allies. The thing is the partners of the United States are apprehensive about actions the Russian Federation takes over the crisis in Ukraine, Associated Press reports.
Obama said that this money will go to intensive train and rotate forces located in Europe. Moreover, the Americans are planning to bring extra warships in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea. Besides, the United States intends to increase military capacities of non-NATO members bordering Russia such as Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.
Obama shared his plans during the official visit to Poland, which was the starting point of the American president’s four-day tour in Europe. He stated that the U.S. cares about the security in Europe as much as about its own. "Our commitment to Poland's security as well as the security of our allies in central and eastern Europe is a cornerstone of our own security and it is sacrosanct," President Obama announced having American and Polish F-16 fighter jets in background.
