Raimondo considers US recession unlikely

Despite rumours about a possible recession in the near future, there are reasons to hope the US economy might avoid the worst.

“I do think at some pouint we will see a less rapid growth in the economy, but I don’t see any reason to think that we will have a serious recession," US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced. "The economy in the past year, year and a half has been growing at unprecedentedly high rates 5-6%. I do not think we should expect that,” she added. It is more likely that the US economy will move to sustained growth after the coronavirus pandemic.

Raimondo said that the American businessmen, she kept in touch with, saw no signs of recession. “The fundamentals of this economy are very strong. Inflation is our problem and it is our top priority,” she noted.

Earlier, the US “big four” banks Wells Fargo reported that the US economic growth was slowing down. At the same time, experts at Wells Fargo predicted nearly a month ago that the US economy could decline moderately by the end of 2022.
